Description

1. What is Bekunis Tisana and what is it used for

Bekunis Tisane is a stimulant plant laxative, for use in infusion (herbal tea). It is a herbal medicine for the short-term treatment of occasional constipation.

You should see your doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse after 4 days.

2. What you need to know before you start taking Bekunis Tisana

Do not take Bekunis Tisana:

If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to the active substance or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).

If you suffer from abdominal pain of unknown origin.

If you suffer from ileus, appendicitis, chronic inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis; in case of abdominal pain of unknown cause, as well as in cases of severe dehydration with water and salt losses.

Children under 12 years of age cannot take Bekunis Tisana.

Warnings and cautions

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist or nurse before taking Bekunis Tisana.

An intake of stimulant laxatives for more than the short expected application time may cause a worsening of constipation. This preparation should be used only when a therapeutic effect has not been achieved with a change in eating habits or with bolus-forming laxative preparations.

Interaction of Bekunis Tisane and other medications:

Tell your doctor or pharmacist that you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicine.

Long-term use of laxatives can cause a decrease in potassium levels that can increase the action of other medications that are administered for the heart.

If you are taking other medications such as cardiac glycosides, arrhythmia medications, medications that induce QT interval prolongation, diuretics, corticosteroids, or licorice root, consult your doctor before taking the medication.

The action of this medication on intestinal transit could modify the levels of other medications that will be taken orally at the same time.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding:

Consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking any medicine.

Due to insufficient toxicological research, Bekunis Tisana cannot be used by pregnant or lactating women.

Important for women:

If you are pregnant or think you might be, consult your doctor before taking this medicine. The use of medications during pregnancy can be dangerous for the embryo or the fetus and should be monitored by your doctor.

Driving and using machines:

No special precautionary measures are necessary.

3. How to take Bekunis Tisane

Follow exactly the instructions for administration of the medicine contained in this leaflet or those indicated by your doctor, pharmacist or nurse. If in doubt, ask your doctor, pharmacist or nurse.

Bekunis Tisana is a medicine that is taken by mouth.

The normal dose is:

Adults and adolescents over 12 years: Once a day take 1 to 2 measures from the Bekunis Tisana dispenser. The correct individual dose is the minimum required to obtain a smooth bowel movement. The dose must be adapted individually according to need.

The maximum daily dose should not exceed 30 mg of hydroxyanthracene derivatives, that is, 2 measures from the dispenser (1 g of the drug) of Bekunis Tisana

In general, it is enough to take the drug 2 or 3 times to obtain the desired effect.

If symptoms persist or worsen while using the medicine, you should consult a doctor.

How to use:

Pour boiling water into a glass or cup over 1 or 2 measures from the Bekunis Tisana dispenser.

The drug usually takes 8 to 12 hours to produce its laxative action, so a single dose at night is recommended, so that the effect occurs in the morning.

Treatment duration:

Stimulant laxatives should not be taken without doctor's advice for a long period of time (greater than 1 week).

In general, it is enough to take the medicine 2 or 3 times to obtain the desired effect.

If after 4 days from the start of taking Bekunis Tisana , no defecation has occurred, you should stop the treatment and consult your doctor.

If you think that the action of Bekunis Tisana is too strong or too weak, tell your doctor or pharmacist.

Use in children:

Bekunis Tisana should not be given to children under 12 years of age.

Use in elderly patients:

Because of your age and depending on your physical condition, you may be more sensitive to the effects of the medicine. Consult your doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine and if you consider that any of the side effects you suffer is serious or if you notice any side effect not mentioned in this leaflet.

When incontinent patients use this mediament, greater care should be taken when changing diapers to avoid contact with feces.

If you take more Bekunis Tisana than you should:

The ingestion of doses much higher than those recommended of the product can cause intestinal cramps and severe diarrhea with the consequent loss of water and salt, as well as possible gastrointestinal pain. However, the possibility of poisoning from the consumption of herbal teas is very low.

If you have taken more Bekunis Tisana than you should, consult your doctor, pharmacist or call the Toxicology Information Service, telephone 91 562 04 20, indicating the medicine and the amount taken.

If you forget to use Bekunis Tisana:

Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose but continue taking as directed by your doctor or as described in the package leaflet.

If you have any further questions on the use of this medicine, ask your doctor, pharmacist or nurse.

4. Possible side effects

Like all medicines, Bekunis Tisana can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.

Occasionally, pains in the belly and spasms, meteorism (presence of gas in the belly), nausea, mucous stools and / or diarrhea, skin rashes, allergic reactions can occur. A yellow-red-brown coloration of the urine may appear, although this is not clinically important. All these symptoms disappear when treatment is stopped.

If you experience side effects, consult your doctor, pharmacist or nurse, even if it is about side effects that are not listed in this leaflet.

5. How to store Bekunis Tisana

Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.

It does not require any special storage conditions.

Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton after EXP. The expiration date is the last day of the month indicated.

Shelf life after opening the container: 6 months

Do not put medicine down the drain or in the trash. Ask your pharmacist where to dispose of medicines you no longer use. This way you will help to protect the environment.

Composition of Bekunis Tisana:

The active principle is:

1 g of Bekunis Tisana contains 1 g of cut leaves of Cassia angustifolia Vahl., With a content of 25 mg of hydroxyanthracene derivatives expressed as sennoside B.

Bekunis Tisana is a herbal tea that comes in 80 g containers, equipped with a dispenser for 500 mg measures.
