1. What is ENO fruit salt and what is it used for

ENO fruit salt is a medicine with antacid action and is indicated for the relief and symptomatic treatment of acidity and heartburn in adults and adolescents over 12 years of age.

You must talk to a doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse after 7 days.

2. What you need to know before you take ENO fruit salt

Do not take ENO Fruit Salt

  • If you are allergic to sodium hydrogen carbonate, anhydrous citric acid, anhydrous sodium carbonate or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
  • In case of heart, liver or kidney disease.
  • In case of high voltage.
  • If you are on a low sodium diet.

Warnings and cautions

The use of high amounts of this medicine or for a long period of time can cause alkalosis (alteration of the acid-base balance) so it should not exceed the recommended dose.

Do not use for more than 7 days in a row. If after this period the symptoms persist, stop taking the medicine and consult your doctor, as this could indicate the existence of a more serious disease.

If you have appendicitis or its symptoms (nausea, vomiting, cramps, abdominal pain) you should not take this medicine.

Children

Children under 12 years of age: This medicine is not indicated for use in children under 12 years of age.

Using ENO fruit salt with other medicines

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are using, have recently used or might take any other medicines.

In general, taking any antacid should be separated by a minimum of 1 or 2 hours from the administration of any other medication.

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine if you are taking:

  • Tetracyclines, used to treat some infections.
  • Amphetamines, used as a stimulant of the nervous system.
  • Quinidine, used to treat heart rhythm problems.
  • Lithium carbonate, used to treat some psychiatric problems.
  • Iron salts, used to treat iron deficiencies.
  • Calcium supplements.

Taking ENO Fruit Salt with food and drink

The consumption of milk and dairy products should be done at different times from taking the medicine.

You should not take this medicine immediately after excess food and drink.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you might be pregnant or are planning to become pregnant, consult your doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine.

Driving and using machines

No effects on the ability to drive or use machines have been observed.

ENO fruit salt contains sodium

Patients on low sodium diets should note that this medicine contains 852 mg (37 mmol) of sodium per 5 g dose.

3. How to take ENO fruit salt

Adults and children over 12 years: the recommended dose is one sachet or an internal measure of the bottle cap (5 g of effervescent powder) dissolved in a glass of water when symptoms occur, preferably 1 to 3 hours after meals.

No more than 2 doses should be taken in a 24 hour period.

Dissolve the content of an effervescent powder sachet in a glass of water. Stir until effervescence ceases, obtaining a clear solution.

{for 150g bottles of effervescent powder}

If symptoms do not improve in 7 days, you should stop treatment and see a doctor.

Use in children under 12 years : This medicine is not indicated for use in children under 12 years.

If you take more ENO Fruit Salt than you should

With high doses, there may be an increase in sodium in the blood and metabolic alkalosis, manifested by the following symptoms: weakness, thirst, decreased saliva, dizziness, headache, decreased blood pressure and tachycardia (increased number of heartbeats). from the heart).

In case of overdose or accidental ingestion, immediately consult your doctor or pharmacist or call the Toxicology Information Service. Telephone 91 562 04 20, indicating the medicine and the amount ingested.

4. Possible side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.

The following side effects have been observed with an unknown frequency (cannot be estimated from the available data): mild irritation of the stomach or intestines, belching, flatulence (gas) and swelling of the abdomen.

5. Conservation of ENO fruit salt

This medicine does not require any special storage conditions.

Keep out of the sight and reach of children.

Do not use ENO Fruit Salt after the expiry date which is stated on the carton after EXP. The expiration date is the last day of the month indicated.

Medicines must not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Deposit the containers and medicines you do not need at the Sigre point of the pharmacy. If in doubt, ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. This way you will help to protect the environment.

6. Package contents and additional information

Composition of ENO fruit salt

The active ingredients are: each 5 g of effervescescent powder contains 2,319 mg of sodium hydrogen carbonate, 2,181 mg of anhydrous citric acid and 500 mg of anhydrous sodium carbonate. This medicine does not contain any excipients.

What the product looks like and contents of the pack

ENO Fruit Salt is a white effervescent powder. It is presented in 150 g bottles and boxes of 10 paper-polyethylene-aluminum-polyethylene sachets containing 5 g of effervescent powder.
