Lizipaine Chlorhexidine/Benzocaine 5/2.5 Mg 20 Sucking Tablets

The active substances in this medicine work by combining the antiseptic and disinfectant action of chlorhexidine with the local anesthetic action of benzocaine. This medicine is used for local and temporary symptomatic relief of mild mouth and throat infections that occur with pain and without fever, such as throat irritation, aphony and small mouth canker sores, for adults, adolescents and children 6 years of age or older. You should see a doctor if it gets worse or if it does not improve after 2 days.

Description

ACTION AND MECHANISM

- Association of local ester and antiseptic anesthetic. Benzocaine works by blocking sensory receptors in mucous membranes locally. Chlorhexidine is a broad-spectrum antiseptic with special activity against gram-positive, also has fungistatic effect against Candida.

SPECIAL WARNINGS

- In patients with periodonditis, chlorhexidine causes an increase in supragingital stones.

PATIENT ADVICE

- Avoid use in children under 6 years of age.

- The tablets should not be chewed or swallowed, as their action is local.

- You can permanently color the fillings if the surface or its margins are rough.

- Maintain adequate oral hygiene, with special anti-theft toothpaste, to reduce anti-theft tinnitus and coloration caused by chlorhexidine.

Contraindications

- [ALLERGY TO LOCAL ANESTHETICS TYPE ESTER] to PABA or parabens or paraphenylendiamine (a dye for hair), or to chlorhexidine.

- Children under 6 years of age, due to their special sensitivity to the systemic toxicity of benzocaine, methemoglobinemia may occur.

Pregnancy

There are insufficient data from the use of chlorhexidine and benzocaine in pregnant women.

Chlorhexidine: no fertility disorders, fetotoxic actions, or natal peri-post toxicity have been reported in studies with experimental animals.

Benzocaine: No problems with benzocaine have been reported in pregnancy.

Indications

- Symptomatic relief of [BUCAL INFECTIONS] and [FARINGITIS], which occur with pain and without fever (throat irritation, [AFONIA], [RONQUERA], [ORAL AFTAS]).

Interactions

Due to the presence of benzocaine, it interferes with:

- Cholinesterase inhibitors: inhibit the metabolism of the local anesthetic, with the risk of increased systemic toxicity.

- Sulfamides: benzocaine metabolites can antagonize the antibacterial activity of sulfamides.

Breast feeding

It is not known whether chlorhexidine is excreted in human milk. No problems with benzocaine have been reported in lactation.

Children

Due to its benzocaine content it should not be used in children under 6 years of age. Children are more sensitive to the systemic toxicity of benzocaine, being able to produce methemoglobinemia.

RULES FOR PROPER ADMINISTRATION

Dissolve slowly in the mouth, without chewing or swallowing.

Dosage

- Adults and children over 6 years: 1 tablet/2 h. Do not exceed 8 tablets/day.

Precautions

- If after two days of treatment, symptoms become aggravated or accompanied by fever, headache, nausea or vomiting, talk to your doctor.

EXCIPIENT PRECAUTIONS

- This medicine contains aspartame as an excipient, so it should be taken into account by those affected by [FENILCETONURIA]. 100 mg aspartame corresponds to 56.13 mg phenylalanine.

ADVERSE REACTIONS

Side effects are generally mild and transient. The most characteristic are:

-Occasionally, brown coloration on teeth, fillings, dentures and other oral devices and tongue. Tongue coloration disappears spontaneously and is not dangerous. The coloration of the teeth is not permanent, it can be removed by oral cleansing. The coloration of fillings can be permanent.

- Temporary alterations of taste and oral burning sensation may occur at the start of treatment.

- Increased tartar.

- Rare cases of oral irritation from burning lesions, sometimes painful (especially in children between the age of 10 and 18), which is usually temporary, and irritation of the tip of the tongue, have been reported.

- Also in rare cases local allergic reactions that sometimes were accompanied by nasal congestion, itching, skin rash.

- Itching, itching, swelling or redness inside or around the mouth.

Adverse reactions that may arise from the presence of benzocaine are due to excessive dosing or rapid absorption, as well as idiosyncrasies of the patient, and include sensitization by contact and angioedema (by allergic reaction or contact dermatitis).

Overdose

At the proposed doses, an overdose table is difficult to produce.

- Symptoms: due to chlorhexidine, especially in children, symptoms of alcohol poisoning (babbling speech, numbness or wobbly gait). Symptoms due to benzocaine: CNS stimulation (symptoms are blurred or double vision, dizziness, seizures, ear jingles, arousal), followed by CNS depression (sleepiness), cardiovascular system depression, increased sweating, low blood pressure or slow or irregular heartbeat. Methemoglobinemia (shortness of breath, dizziness, fatigue, tiredness, weakness) may also occur.

- Treatment: as far as chlorhexidine is concerned, it is fundamentally syntomatological. Administer oxygen or institute assisted breathing, and for circulatory depression administer a vasoconstrictor and intravenous fluids. Treatment of methemoglobinemia: methylene blue.
